Obituary for David Mario Carelli

David Mario Carelli, age 86 of South San Francisco, entered safely into eternal rest surrounded
by family and his beloved cat, Bella.

He leaves behind his loving brother Fred Carelli, his children, and grandkids. David was
welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Giusseppe and Luigia Carelli, as well as his wife, Wanda
Carelli, on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 .

Growing up David Carelli sailed with his mother to Italy on the famous Queen Mary Liner that is
now on exhibit in Long Beach. David traveled back home to Italy a few times throughout his life
and always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends there. He attended South San
Francisco High School and graduated as a Warrior in class of ‘54. In his early years, David
worked as a driver for Goss-Jewett and retired working as a South San Francisco police reserve
Capitan. He then continued to show his love for the community of SSF by volunteering at the
police department. He spent his off time playing baseball, golf, and later bocce ball. He also
enjoyed attending car shows and other events in his ‘61 Cadillac.

He was lovingly cared for in his home, by his son, Dave Carelli Jr., until his final days. David
served as an Army medical corpsman and was given a small and intimate military service, to
honor his time served. He was buried alongside his wife at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

David Carelli Sr. is a true South San Francisco native. So much so that when the city council
decided the concrete message found on Sign Hill was no longer appropriate for the city, he went
down to city hall and successfully advocated its significance. The city decided leaving the sign as
it is, “South San Francisco The Industrial City.” David Carelli was loved by many and whose
presence will be missed forever. This is not “Good-bye”, this is “Until we meet again”.
