Obituary for Mira Anita McTiernan (Mahoney)

Mira Anita (Mahoney) McTiernan born to David Ignatius and Angela Maria (Knoll) Mahoney on March 4, 1928. Mira passed away peacefully in her hometown of San Francisco 3 months after the passing of her husband of 73 years, James McTiernan. Mira, a fourth generation San Franciscan is survived by sons Daniel (Kerry), James (Mary), Thomas (d. 1983), Patrick (Carmen) and daughter Mary. Mira leaves behind 12 grandchildren, James, Colleen, Aileen, Emily, Andrew, Amanda, Allison, Erin, Fiona, Briana, Christopher and Nicholas. She also leaves behind 13 great grandchildren.

Mira met James on a train from San Francisco to Boyes Hot Springs and they married May 7, 1949. She worked as a Dental Hygienist, Bill Meehan Battery Office Manager & Monroe Schneider Payroll Manager.

Moving from San Francisco to South San Francisco in 1955, a dedicated Saint Veronica’s parishioner for over 64 years, dedicated Eucharistic Minister and Lector, Grievance Ministry, and she was an active SVdP volunteer. Attending daily Mass with close friends they spent many mornings having breakfast after service. Along with her husband volunteered for Catholic Worker Hospitality House in San Bruno. She was a member of YLI, loved to read, traveled the world with family and friends.

Visitation and Rosary will be on Monday, November 21, 2022 6:00pm at Garden Chapel, South San Francisco. Funeral Mass Tuesday, November 22, 2022 10:00am at St. Veronica’s Catholic Church, SSF
