Obituary for Charles E. Rutledge

Charles E. Rutledge, Jr.
August 22, 1960 – October 15, 2020
Born in San Francisco, California
Resided in South San Francisco, California

It is with great sadness that the family of Charles E. Rutledge, Jr., announces his passing on October 15, 2020 at the age of 60.

Charles was born on August 22, 1960, in San Francisco, California to Charles E. Rutledge, Sr. and Margot M. Garcia. His parents raised him in the Mission District of San Francisco where he attended Mission High School. He worked for Golden Brands as a Driver for about 15 years prior to his disability retirement.

Charles enjoyed watching sports, the Modern Family series, listening to Funk, Soul and R&B and just all around having a good time. He found happiness attending social gatherings, celebrating holidays and other special occasions with family and friends. He held his heart and feelings close to his chest, but you could see that he found true love having his children. Charles met the mother of his children, Kim L. Kapogiannis, in 1992 and they were together for 14 years.
He coached his children in sports, and always made the effort to attend dance recitals, cheer competitions, and rock concerts his children were part of. Charles was always talking about and showing off his children to any person he would meet and made it known that he was very proud of their accomplishments, no matter how big or small.
Charles was who he was and didn’t feel the need to apologize for it, because as we all know he always did things his own way. He had a great sense of humor, he was charming, a bit old school, and he was what we would term as a man’s man. His over the top personality, funny comments, and well-known opinions will be truly be missed.

Charles is survived by his children: Chelsea M. Kapuniai, Dwight H. Kapuniai (son-in-law), Charles N. Rutledge, Brandon A. Conrad (step-son), Nicole M. Mercurio (step-daughter), his beautiful granddaughter Keliana H. Kapuniai, his siblings, Angelina D. Rutledge, Joseph R. Rutledge, Elya Rutledge (sister-in-law) David D. Rutledge (predeceased), James M. Rutledge, Theresa R. Spaulding (sister-in-law), Deborah R. Rutledge, nieces, nephews and other family members.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 11:00am at Garden Chapel 885 El Camino, South San Francisco, California 94080. Light refreshments will be served.
In lieu of flowers, Cash/Check Donations would be very much appreciated to help offset the cost of the funeral expenses.
