Obituary for Dina Fornesi
Dina Fornesi, our beautiful and wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and wife, passed away on September 6, 2023 at the age of 70 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Torre Del Lago Puccini, Italy to the late Lino and Teresa Simonetti. Her father and the family immigrated to San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood in 1959.
As a young girl, she loved fishing with her father, going out with her friends, and cooking with her mom which explains why she was such a fantastic cook.
She met her future husband, Oriano, in what was then a dance club at Fugazi Hall in North Beach in 1973. In January 1974, they were married and had 2 children, Sabrina and Sandro.
Her parents opened Café Puccini in North Beach in the 1980’s where Dina worked very hard. She made delicious focaccia sandwiches and baked goods. Through her beautiful smile and warm personality, she gained many friends. When her parents retired, Dina and Oriano opened Café Trinity on Market St in San Francisco. It was a great success.
She loved to travel internationally and locally. In Italy, she had many aunts, uncles, and cousins. In McCloud, California, she owned a relaxing vacation home.
She was a fabulous hostess and cook and relished having all festivities, whether it was for holidays, birthdays, or special occasions, at her house.
She is survived by her loving husband, Oriano, sister Antonella Simonetti, daughter Sabrina (Chris) Bronzini, son Sandro (Allie), and her 4 beautiful grandchildren, Stella, Mia, Sofia, Luca, and arriving in the fall, Mila Dina, who we already know has a guardian angel. She’s also survived by family in Santa Rosa and many relatives and friends in Italy.
She never stopped loving her family and friends, even during her fierce final battle with cancer. She will be with us forever.
Mass will be held on September 16 at 2:00pm at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1721 Hillside Dr., Burlingame.
