Obituary for Dolores R. Lau

Dolores R. Lau, also known as Del, passed away on February 11, 2024, at the age of 97 in her home in South San Francisco, California where she lived for 60 years. She was born on May 19, 1926, in Penngrove, California, to her late parents. Del was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. She was known for her warm smile, thoughtful hospitality, and love for her family.

Del is survived by her three children: Bruce Lau (Beth), Dianne Baily (David), Craig Lau (Judy); along with nine grandchildren: Rachel McDonald, Kaelin Lau, Ryan Wright, Allyson Laeng, Michelle Hoeckendorf, Jilliann Lau, Danielle Lau, Eric Lau, and Austin Lau. Del also had eight greatgrandchildren: Laurel McDonald, Grant McDonald, Luke Giacomin, Colson Hoeckendorf, Noel McDonald, Nolan Laeng, Kaylee Hoeckendorf, and Corinne McDonald. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her son Gary Lau, and her husband William Lau to whom she had been married for 52 years.

Del attended Star of the Sea Catholic School for her primary education and later graduated from Lowell High School in San Francisco. She was a member of St. Veronica Catholic Church, where she worshiped.

Del had a keen interest in current events and was always up to date with the latest tennis talents and their achievements. Back in the day, Del enjoyed gardening and flowers, playing tennis, watching movies, and listening to music. She was a consummate hostess, especially during holiday dinners with her family. Del loved Christmas and took particular delight in gift-giving to all the family. On special occasions, she loved sipping her favorite cocktail, a whiskey sour.

A funeral mass to honor Del's life will be held at St. Veronica's in South San Francisco on Wednesday, February 21 at 10:30 AM.
