Obituary for Helen Ybarra

Helen Ybarra of South San Francisco passed away at home on November 22,2020, after a short courageous battle with bone cancer.

Helen was born on November 8,1928 in Pecos , New Mexico . Helen was born into a family of 10 other brothers and sisters being the last one of her generation. Helen was a migrant farm worker for most of her early childhood as the family moved from Mexico to eventually California.

The family took root in Carpinteria Ca, where Helen met her future husband Benjamin Ybarra at the Lemon Packing House where they worked.

Married in San Luis Obispo in 1951 Benjamin went to the Korean War till 1953, came home to both live in San Francisco.

Once Benjamin found work with See’s Candies in 1954 they settled and bought a home in South San Francisco.

Helen and Benjamin started a family 1962 with their first son Patrick and in 1966 with their second son Benjamin Jr.

Like Benjamin and Patrick, Helen worked for See’s Candies for 20 years as an Asst Store Manager at the Factory in South San Francisco.

Helen loved her sports especially the San Francisco 49ers and Giants and traveling to Santa Barbara and Solvang.

Most of all she loved to tell her stories of her past and meet new people, Helen had many friends in the neighborhood.



Helen was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin of 62 years of marriage and survived by her Son’s Patrick and Benjamin Jr and Daughter- in law Maria Ybarra and Daughter In-Law Jackie Luppi and her two children James Alexander Luppi and Sabrina Luppi and many nieces and nephews and friends



Because of Covid 19 there will be a small private ceremony but a celebration of Life at a later date in 2021.
