Obituary for Leslie B. Mealing

Leslie Mealing of South San Francisco died at the age of 96 surrounded by his loving family and friends who mourned his passing February 24th, 2024. Leslie, fondly known as “Les”, was born in Vineland, New Jersey on June 3rd, 1927, and grew up in Riverton, New Jersey before being drafted into the military the summer prior to his senior year of High School. Serving in the US Navy for seven years, five of which were on the USS Boxer, an Essex class Carrier in the South Pacific during the end of WW II and the beginning years of the Korean War.

He was married to Kathleen Mealing, his wife for 53 years prior to her passing in 2002. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing with his family and friends, an avid Bay Area sports fan loyally following the San Francisco 49ers, Giants and Warriors.

He will be greatly missed and is survived by his three remaining children Peggie Sanchez, Dean Mealing and Leann Proud, their spouses Andy Sanchez, Domarina Mealing, Murray Proud, and Hala Mealing, widow of Les’ deceased son David, his seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The family invites you to celebrate Les’ life with them. May 31st there will be an open house at the family home in South San Francisco and on June 1st a picnic at his favorite spot in the redwoods at Memorial Park.
