Obituary for Rich Caro

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard “Rich” Caro, age 77, of San Francisco California who passed away Monday, March 27th, 2023.

Rich was born in January 1946 in San Francisco, CA, which he would continue to call home for the next 77 years. He grew up in the Ingleside District, attended Balboa High School, and played baseball at Kezar Stadium and Crocker Amazon fields. Shortly after graduation, he met the love of his life, Pam, at Rio Nido. Rich and Pam were married in December of 1966 and were married for 56 years. Rich served honorably in Vietnam for the United States Army in the 101st Airborne Division, Screaming Eagles. He raised his family in the Ingleside District and was actively involved in the community. His love of sports was shared with generations of baseball and basketball players through Epiphany CYO, FLAME, Riordan, and the entire Excelsior area.

Rich/Big Rich/Dad/Papa/Uncle Rich leaves behind his adoring, loving, caretaking wife Pam Caro, his two children Richard (Nicole) Caro and Heather (Kenny) Leveroni, six adoring grandchildren, Michael Caro, Nicholas Caro, Sofia Leveroni, Noah Caro, Carina Leveroni, and Tommaso Leveroni, along with his sister-in-law, Tina (Bob) Schoolcraft, nieces, Melonie (John) Quintell, LaRay (Nathan) Hilt, and great-nephews and a great-niece. Rich’s proudest title was Papa, and he received great joy in championing all of their endeavors. Rich had countless friends, colleagues at the SF Produce Market and at Peninsula Hospital. He held dear the Arizona Spring Training Crew and the generations of ballplayers that he coached. Rich lived a love-filled life with his beloved family as he cheered on his SF Giants and listened to Frank Sinatra. He did it his way, up until the end…we know what your next game plan will be Papa, we will see you on second base.
