Obituary for Romilda Franzoni
Romilda(Millie)Franzoni passed away peacefully on October 31, 2021. Millie was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Luigia Ghiorzi, immigrants from Genoa, Italy. She was preceded in death by her brother Reno and her sister-in-law, Doris. She was the loving wife of the late Harry Franzoni and mother of her four daughters who she proudly numbered chronologically, Daughter Number 1, Jeanne/Gidge(Billy McCaleb(D), (Bob), Daughter Number 2, Lori(Tony), Daughter Number 3, Judy(Craig), and Daughter Number 4, Terri(Bubba). Adoring Nonni to Anya/Taylor and Brett. Millie was known as Auntie Millie and Auntie Num Num to her many nieces and nephews that she held very dear to her heart.
Millie was a native San Franciscan who graduated from Commerce High School. She married Harry on June 1, 1940 at Saints Peter & Paul Church. Their journey began in Bernal Heights, working side by side at their corner store. Their first house was on Cayuga Avenue and in 1962 they relocated to South San Francisco. In keeping with Millie's love of Italian tradition, both homes were gathering places for all.
After Harry passed in 1981, Millie began a life of numerous careers that included working for the SSFUSD, Monterey Cheese Company, the Italian Catholic Federation, and Century 21 Realty. She remained active, continuing to drive well into her nineties and being an active member of the ICF, serving on the board, acting as secretary and treasurer for many years and planning numerous events and fund-raisers. She also rarely missed a Wednesday Night Bingo at St. Veronica's.
Millie's daughters would like to honor and acknowledge their mom's numerous friends and close neighbors whom she welcomed with open arms. Her belief in the values of strong family tradition and love touched the hearts of many who she embraced as family.
Millie has been described as generous, kind, compassionate, independent and strong. Her husband Harry summed Millie's many attributes up by saying, "She's a tough lady, but she has a giant heart!"
There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Veronica's Church, 434 Alida Way, South San Francisco at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 9th. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will take place at 11:30 AM at the Basque Cultural Center, 599 Railroad Avenue, South San Francisco.
